my name is anna sprague and i am a performance artist, creative facilitator, and rpt faculty member teaching in the foundation and media arts divisions聽at nscad university.聽 in tandem with my proclivity for evocative visual poetics, bizarre sculptural materials, outlandish costumes, and repetitive聽performative gestures, my studio聽practice employs creative collaboration and site-specific intervention as tools to聽critically engage with cultural landscapes and to explore notions of聽responsiveness, empathy and connection. 聽my creative practice resides at a point of confluence where聽poetry,聽competitive sport, science fairs,聽amateur聽astrology,聽community gardening, modern dance, construction sites, and summer camp skit-nights, meets radical crafting and contemporary theory. 聽supported by a聽rigorously intuitive and distinctly vague methodology, i see my聽work as a poetic anamnesis of repetition and movement – 聽 a practice propelled by my聽excitement for the latent performativity of all things.聽聽i hold degrees in english literature (b.a mount allison university, sackville, nb) and聽interdisciplinary聽studio arts (b.f.a & m.f.a concordia university, montreal, qc).聽 i am a newfoundlander聽 with a love for lowercase letters and underwhelming coincidences.
